Nota: Con el presente simple se utiliza la forma básica del verbo (el infinitivo).
Nota: En el presente simple el verbo cambia de forma cuando se utiliza «he, she, it» o cuando se habla en «tercera persona.» (Steven=He; Telefónica=it; etc.) Normalmente, en la afirmativa es simplemente cuestión de añadir una «s» al verbo. Sin embargo, hay verbos que cambian a otra forma como «have» que cambia a «has.» Otras veces, se añade «es» como al verbo «go», o se cambia «y» por «i» en palabras como «fly» (flies).

Nota: A veces los adverbios de frecuencia se pueden poner en otras posiciones dentro de la frase (aunque esto puede suponer un cambio en el significado). Por ejempo, al final: «I do my homework always» o al principio: «Usually, he needs a coffee after lunch.» Por regla general es mejor para los alumnos principiantes acostumbrarse a ponerlos justo antes del verbo (o después del verbo «to be»).

Nota: En inglés no es común utilizar adverbios de frecuencia negativos como «never» en oraciones como «They don’t never do…» ya que dos negativos en la misma frase pueden sonar redundante, un poco inculto, o cancelarse y hacer un positivo. Sin embargo, con una entonación fuerte correcta pueden añadir énfasis a lo dicho.

1. Para hablar sobre verdades generales – «People need air.» (La gente necesita aire.)
2. Para hablar sobre características – «I have brown hair.» («Tengo el pelo castaño.»)
3. Para hablar sobre estados – «I want a new car.» («Quiero un coche nuevo.») «I like the Beatles.» («Me gustan los Beatles.»)
4. Para hablar sobre hábitos (rutinas) – «I go to work every day.» («Voy a trabajar todos los días.»)
5. Para hablar sobre horarios de trenes, aviones, etc. – «Flight IB256 departs Madrid at 17:30.» («El vuelo IB256 sale de Madrid a las 17.30.»)
